Recenter Therapeutic Massage FAQs from Courtney Greth in Denver

Everything You’ve Been Wondering About Recenter: Massage & Energy Work FAQ

If you’ve ever had questions about what to expect during a session at Recenter, or about massage therapy and energy work in general, you’re not alone. Whether it’s your first time booking bodywork or you’re simply curious about how my approach differs, this guide is here to support you.

Here are answers to the most common questions I receive from new (and returning!) clients.

What should I expect in my first session?

Your first session at Recenter is all about creating comfort, safety, and connection. Before we begin, we’ll spend a few minutes chatting about your health history, your goals for the session, and how you’re feeling that day, physically, emotionally, and energetically.

Then we’ll discuss the techniques I might use and any boundaries or preferences you have. Everything is led by your consent. Once we’re aligned, I’ll leave the room to let you get on the table under the sheets, and we’ll begin your session.

How do I know if I need massage or energy work?

This is a common question! The short answer is: you don’t need to choose. Every session at Recenter can include both physical bodywork and energetic healing techniques, depending on what’s needed in the moment.

Massage is great for physical tension, pain relief, and nervous system regulation. Energy work (like reiki or polarity therapy) can support emotional balance, grounding, and subtle body alignment. We’ll always tailor your session to meet you, no need to decide ahead of time.

Do you work with trauma or emotional release?

Yes, gently and with care.

While I’m not a licensed mental health therapist, I am trained to hold space for emotional experiences and nervous system responses that may arise during bodywork. The body stores memory and emotion, and sometimes massage or energy work can bring those feelings to the surface.

If you cry, shake, laugh, or go quiet, it’s all welcome. You don’t have to explain anything. You are safe here, and I’m here to support whatever your body needs to process moment-to-moment.

What does energy work mean, exactly?

Energy work involves connecting with the unseen layers of your body, your energetic field, your chakras, your emotional rhythms, and supporting balance and flow within them.

At Recenter, I use a blend of modalities including reiki, polarity therapy, and biodynamic craniosacral therapy (currently in training). These practices are gentle yet powerful, and can support deep healing, clarity, and nervous system regulation.

Think about a WiFi signal. We can’t see WiFi, but we know it is there, working around the clock to keep us connected to the internet. We know when the WiFi is working. On the flip side, we can tell right away as soon as the WiFi is not functioning.

The first line of defense to remedy a wonky WiFi signal is to reboot the router.

Energy work “reboots the router” of your body and its systems. The connections can flow more smoothly again with less irritability, less anxiety, less frustration, and more calmness, more openness, and more space.

Do I need to talk during my session?

Nope! You are not required to make conversation, and many people choose to drop into silence. That said, if talking feels supportive for you, that’s okay too. I follow your lead.

This is your time to rest, process, and reconnect with yourself. You don’t need to expend any extra mental energy to keep a dialogue going. Take this time to bask in peace.

Do you work with grief, burnout, or stress recovery?

Absolutely. These are some of the most common reasons people come to Recenter.

Massage and energy work can be incredible tools for navigating loss, chronic stress, career burnout, relationship troubles, or major life changes. They offer a chance to be in your body in a safe, supportive way, without needing to explain or perform.

If you’ve been carrying too much for too long, this space is for you.

How often should I come in?

It depends on your body, your goals, and your lifestyle.

I always tell people to consider:

  • What does your body say?

  • What does your schedule say?

  • What does your budget say?

For some people, monthly sessions are enough for maintenance. Some people come in once or twice a year. Others book every two weeks or weekly for deeper support. After your first session, we can talk about what frequency feels best for your healing process.

What are your COVID protocols and hygiene practices?

I maintain high sanitation standards between each client, including fresh linens, handwashing, and disinfecting all surfaces. If you're feeling unwell, I ask that you reschedule for everyone's safety.

What types of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, check, Venmo or Zelle transactions, and credit/debit cards. Payment is due at the time of service.

Do you offer packages or gift certificates?

No, I do not offer packages or gift certificates. If you would like to cover a session for a loved one, you can gift them money for their session. Your loved one must be the one to schedule their appointment.

Still have questions? Let’s chat.

If there’s anything you’re still unsure about, feel free to reach out directly. I’m happy to walk you through what a session can look like and help you feel as comfortable as possible.

Your body already knows how to heal, it just needs the right space to do it. I’d be honored to support you on that journey.
