One of the most common questions I hear is: “How often should I get a massage?”
The truth? It depends. Every body is different, and so is every nervous system. But if you’re seeking lasting relief, whether it’s from stress, pain, emotional tension, or simple burnout, consistency is key.
At Recenter Therapeutic Massage, I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all answer. I believe in listening to your body and honoring your pace. Below, I’ll walk you through a few helpful guidelines to consider when deciding how often to book a massage.
If You’re New to Massage or Releasing Tension
If you’re just starting your massage journey or working through years of built-up tension, I typically recommend: Once a month to once every 6 weeks.
Why? Because your body may need some time to unwind, especially if you’re holding on to physical or emotional stress. Regular sessions support your nervous system in learning how to relax, trust, and regulate. Something many of us were never taught.

If You Work a High-Stress Job or Sit at a Desk All Day…
Stress is stored in the body. Chronic tension in your neck, shoulders, jaw, and low back often stems from your daily habits.
If you’re in a high-pressure environment or sit for hours at a time, I recommend:
Every 2–4 weeks to reduce muscular strain and support better posture, circulation, and nervous system balance.
If You’re Grieving, Healing, or Feeling Overwhelmed...
Massage isn’t just about muscles. It's an invitation to come back to yourself.
When you’re moving through grief, emotional overwhelm, anxiety, or trauma recovery, consistent therapeutic touch and energy work can help you feel more grounded and present.
I suggest: Weekly or biweekly sessions for emotional processing, then tapering to monthly or every 6 weeks as you feel more balanced.
If You’re Using Massage as Self-Care and Maintenance…
Once you’ve reached a place where you’re not managing acute pain or emotional upheaval, a monthly massage is an amazing way to:
Check in with your body
Regulate your nervous system
Prevent tension from returning
Recharge and rest intentionally
Self-care is not a luxury. It’s a way of staying connected to your whole self.
So... What’s Right for You?
When you visit Recenter, you and I will always take time to discuss where you’re at physically, emotionally, and energetically. Together, we’ll create a rhythm that works for you, whether that’s weekly support during a tough time or monthly maintenance for long-term wellness.
For some people, monthly sessions are enough for maintenance. Some people come in once or twice a year. Others book every two weeks or weekly for deeper support. After your first session, we can talk about what frequency feels best for your healing process.
You are in control of the pace of your care. Check in with yourself and ask, “What does your body, schedule, and budget say?”
This is your space to reconnect, soften, and feel more like yourself again, without pressure or judgment.
Ready to Start a Consistent Massage Routine?
I offer 90-minute and 2-hour sessions in my cozy Denver studio. Every session is custom-designed to support your healing, rest, and reconnection.
On a personal note:
I rotate between 4 different massage therapists for my own care. Who I see and when is dependent upon our scheduling availability, my budget, and what my body and spirit need. So, I give you permission to see more than one massage therapist for your care if your body, your budget, and your calendar say so!
With softness,
